Centerprise manage all aspects of BCoT’s IT infrastructure and work with the College on their technology roadmap in a strategic partnership that ensures the College has a well maintained, secure and robust infrastructure to support learning, teaching and administration.

 

BCoT’s computer systems had been run on a fully-outsourced and managed contract for the past nine years. When the time came to review the contract, the college was looking for better value for money and a more strategic partnership.

 

Centerprise has agreed a “hybrid” contract with BCoT, ensuring a Centerprise engineer is permanently on campus to ensure the college’s IT infrastructure is running smoothly. BCoT’s own IT staff will work alongside Centerprise, benefiting and learning from the company’s strategic expertise.

Centerprise and BCoT signed an innovative “hybrid” agreement, whereby Centerprise takes on overall responsibility for its IT infrastructure, working alongside the college’s IT staff.

 

A key element of the three-year “hybrid” contract entails a team member from Centerprise being permanently on campus to ensure the college’s IT infrastructure, which supports 1,500 laptop and desktop computers and is used by 8,000 learners across two sites, is running smoothly. The hybrid nature of the contract means that in addition to the embedded engineer, the college can draw on Centerprise’s extensive pool of specialists and experience to help maintain and develop the College’s IT systems.

 

BCoT’s own IT staff will work alongside Centerprise, benefiting and learning from the company’s strategic expertise. Centerprise is responsible for the system infrastructure as it adapts and evolves and can swing into action quickly if opportunities or problems arise, such as a disaster recovery scenario.

 

The technology environment is based on Microsoft Windows, VMWare with Cisco Network and communications equipment.  Key components include SharePoint, Microsoft SQL and Microsoft Exchange.

 

A dynamic learning environment that puts a strong emphasis on the use of IT in its teaching requires a partner to take a proactive and flexible approach. That’s exactly what Centerprise has given to BCoT.

 

By working together, the college are assured they get the best out of their IT – especially as the needs of the college are constantly evolving. In the end it’s the students who benefit from the results.

 

This is the case at Basingstoke College of Technology (BCoT), a further education college in Basingstoke, Hampshire. There are three campuses, which are split over two sides of a main road. The college has been rated “good with outstanding features” by Ofsted and makes extensive use of IT in its teaching.

 

 

In the past, BCoT’s computer systems had been run on a fully-outsourced and managed contract which was inflexible to the college’s on-going changes.

 

BCoT wanted to move away from the “break-fix” contract that deals only with faults or a very narrow range of administration tasks, to something that can deal effectively with the on-going changes and additions within it’s dynamic learning environment.

 

The college wanted to achieve an ICT service that copes with deploying a significant number of applications to hundreds of devices throughout the academic year, add additional equipment such as new ICT suites, and work with other college staff on the projects that will require the use of ICT by adding additional servers or updating existing ones.
