“Centerprise is very accommodating and everyone is easy to get on with. They just have a total understanding of business continuity inside out. ”
John Thompson - Head of IT, Comic Relief
Picture the scene: many long months of planning; top celebrities booked; key fundraising challenges organised; thousands of volunteers all ready for action; millions of pounds to be raised for charity; the world’s media poised to watch your every move... the last thing that you want is any disruption caused by an unforeseen emergency or disaster.
This is the case at Comic Relief, a major charity based in the UK, with a vision of a just world, free from poverty. Since they started in 1985 they have raised over £900 million.
Millions of pounds worth of donations are channelled through the charity’s website
during the live TV programme, Red Nose Day, via 12,000 call-centre sta around the UK.
The organisation’s telelogistics team which is based temporarily in London’s BT Tower on
the night of Red Nose Day, are responsible for managing and co-ordinating the overall
call centre activity and results, liaising with their colleagues at BT and BBC TV Centre.
Relying so heavily on IT for its day-to-day operations, Comic Relief needs to have an unshakeable faith in its backup and contingency plans, in the event that a genuine emergency occurs or a disaster strikes the organisation, particularly at a critical time during a campaign – this is where Centerprise steps in.
Centerprise supplies and installs all the necessary IT kit required in BT Tower for the telelogistics team. A desktop PC is configured especially for the night and is used as a base image for the rest of the PCs, but the main focus of activity surrounds the supply of agreed annual operational disaster recovery provision and business continuity advice, working in conjunction with Comic Relief.
To test the systems, Centerprise holds regular disaster recovery rehearsals with Comic Relief. Specific rehearsals have therefore been carried out in the past, designed to ensure that various business critical IT systems could be successfully recovered in the event of the organisation experiencing a disruption.
The subsequent learning gained from these extremely useful exercises has been used to
revise the existing disaster recovery plans where necessary, whilst focussing the organisation’s attention more closely on its wider business continuity requirements.
Centerprise has worked closely with Comic Relief over the years as the organisation has grown and its needs have changed, to help continually develop a strategic disaster recovery plan as part of the business continuity process, and to instil awareness within the organisation of the importance of such plans to every department.
“You can trust Centerprise to provide you with expert advice specifically tailored to your own organisation’s business continuity requirements.”
John Thompson - Head of IT, Comic Relief
As a organisation that is constantly growing, Comic Relief can rest assured that should the worst happen, they have an experienced partner on hand to get them back up and running.
The regular disaster recovery rehearsals provide Comic Relief with peace of mind that Centerprise can successfully recover their various business critical IT systems.
By working closely together, Comic Relief benefit from Centerprise being on hand to continually develop the disaster recovery plan, where necessary.
As a charity, Comic Relief need to ensure every penny they spend is done so for the right reason. That’s why they are in the process of changing the way they look at IT as a whole, to see if there are any benefits that can be brought to the way they operate.
Centerprise will be there every step of the way to support Comic Relief in the evolution on their environment. This includes Cloud back-up, SAN Replication and full hosting services.
“It is important for us to develop long-lasting relationships with trusted partners that can prove mutually beneficial. Centerprise is certainly one of them.”
Colin Simon - Business Director, Comic Relief
